THE FOLK SONGS OF NORTH AMERICA IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
1960·Garden City, New York
by Lomax, Alan
Garden City, New York: Doubleday, 1960. first edition. Michael Leonard. Quarto, 623 pages. This massive compilation of song includes, besides a narrative text, over 300 songs, with their melodies and guitar chords transcribed by Peggy Seeger, over 100 piano arrangements by Matyas Seiber and Don Banks, and black and whiote drawings by Michael Leonard as illustration. There are two interesting endpaper maps, one showing the the folk song style areas in North America; the other giving the names and places in this Saga of American Folk Songs. The book, near fine, is bound in black cloth stamped in gilt and white, and is in an edge-rubbed dustjacket with several small tears and chips. It weighs nearly four pounds, so it will incur extra postage charges.
