Washington DC: Post Office Department, 1866-1867. First. Two canvas-backed maps of the United states folded into a brown leather slipcase. Case has some light scuffing and wear at the edges and to the gilt lettering; Some light tearing to edges and folds of map, hand colored; Color still very vibrant on all maps. Two folded maps indicate postal routes through New England. Though the maps were made in 1866, it appears that they were updated in 1867; The outer box credits Amos Kendall, but that may be because the set was given to him, as the Postmaster General at the time was William Dennison, and he is credited on the maps themselves. VERY scarce, especially in this condition. Shelved in Case 1. Dupont. (Inventory #: 9-414-1262345)
