Brownish marbled front and rear end sheets. Gilt top edges. Untrimmed foredges and bottom edges. Front joints and inner hinges are cracked both volumes. Front boards are starting to detach both volumes. Evidence of light glue repairs to upper joints both volumes. Light rubs to leather on rear joints, corners and board edges. Light edge chip to leather head of spine volume 1. Signed by the author on the preface page of volume 1. This set also comes with 2 author signed letters addressed to Julius L. Brown, Esq. Atlanta, Georgia. The first letter, written on the letterhead of "Law Offices of Charles C. Jones, Jr., 811 Broad Street Augusta, Georgia", is dated January 22nd, 1884. Jones writes about his specially bound copy of the History of Georgia in his library and that he can get this set bound for Julius Brown in the same style and cost. C. C. Jones Jr. also writes, "I sincerely trust that your health is completely restored.." The second letter by Jones, written on the same letterhead, is dated April 14th, 1884. This letter informs Julius Brown that the specially bound set of "History of Georgia" was shipped to Mr. Brown via express and freight paid. Julius Brown was a prominent Atlanta Lawyer and brother of Civil War Governor Joseph Brown. Howes J 199; De Renne II p.818.
