New York: E. Liederman, 1924. First Edition. 217 pages. Photographs. One of the great body builders in the 1920's whose student, Angelo Siciliano became known as Charles Atlas. After producing pamphlets, he wrote his system of body building with full-page photographs of Jack Dempsey, Jess Willard, Frank Gotch, Jim Londos, and four of George Hackenschmidt (who he believed was the best proportioned muscle man in the world). Of course, his appeal was for the man who felt his body was inferior so he emphasized that any man through muscle training could be the impressive man at the beach (his student, Charles Atlas, later made this a selling point in magazines. After losing everything in the Depression, he renewed his program at the beaches of Santa Monica and is credited with being a factor in the "Muscle Beach Culture" of Southern California.
