signedfirst editionHard Cover
by Watson, James D. ( & Crick, Francis H.)
New York: Atheneum, 1968. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/About Fine. Original blue cloth, xvi12 pages. Signed and dated by James D. Watson, and signed and dated by Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the DNA molecule. Dust jacket is about fine. Watson and Crick received the Nobel Prize for Physiology, or Medicine, in 1962, for their discovery of DNA, which was announced in the April, 1953 issue of Nature magazine. Now, explained here is the personal story of their discovery of the double helix configuration of DNA, THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF ALL LIFE: THE MOST IMPORTANT DISCOVERY OF THE 20TH CENTURY AND PERHAPS THE GREATEST DISCOVERY OF ALL TIME. James Dewey Watson (1928 -) studied at the University of Chicago and received his Ph.D. in 1950 at the University of Indiana. He studied in Copenhagen for a year, then returned to the California Institute of Technology, before joining the faculty of Harvard University in 1955. Francis Harry Crick (1916 - 2004) attended University College in London and took his Ph.D. from Cambridge. Although a physicist, he turned to biochemistry and molecular biology to research genetic data, specifically to determine the structure of DNA. Inscribed by Watson on 10/9/2007 at the University of Texas at Austin. Inscribed by Crick 5/1/1992 at the Davidson lecture at Baylor University in Waco, Texas (Inscribed to Dr Thomas Murnane).
