[Trade Catalogue] Chase's Three Horse Head Blankets
Boston: L. C. Chase & Co. , 1893. First edition. Wraps. Near Fine. Oblong, 9.5 by 14.5 cm. Unpaginated, 20 pp., including wraps. Color illustrations on every page, with 16 qualifying, in our view, as full page color plates. Most of these plates are of horses sporting the company's plaid or striped horse blankets. But also an illustration of thoroughbreds racing at the track, and one plate of two sample robes (not plaids). A curiosity of this brochure catalogue is that the final interior page is upside down. We believe this was a deliberate attention grabber, as the verso is oriented correctly. The company's blankets all had evocative, although not obvious, names: "Excelsior", "Signal", "Alliance", "Norway", etc. The illustrations are all chromolithographic, as one would expect of the period, and very lovely. Light wear and soiling to the cover.
