American School Arts (1915)Bennett Pub. (1916-17). Condition varies from very good to poor (with water stains on a few issues and detached but present front covers with a few lacking back covers). . Includes select editions of the magazine beginning in October 1914 when the published by American School Arts , concluding in April 1917 ( purchased by Bennett Pub. Co. early 1916) The magazine was designed "to provide useful and entertaining things for children to do --things they would rather do than eat...written in simple English with no preaching, waste of words, nothing but things to do" Over 25 departments at the beginning, each presenting an activity in each issue. Extensive illustrations. With the change of ownership the activities eventually decreased to 15 to 20 and the advertising increased. Advertising included information on Children's toys and games, clothing patterns but of most significance is the extensive information on newly published children's books. This was focused in certain issues. The November 1915 issue includes advertisements and book lists for Lothrop, Lee and Shephard; Houghton Mufflin; Moffat, Yard & Co; Little Brown & Co.; Ginn and Comapny; Silver, Burdett & Co;A. Flanagan Comapn; Beckley-Cardy Co; McDevitt-Wilson's; Bennett Publishing; Prang Co; The Home Library and Books Received at Bennett's Library that were for sale.
