by Randolph H. McKim
New York: Longmans, Green and Co, 1910. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good binding. Signed. An In Tall Cotton book by this Confederate who was "very well connected" in Virginia, making his "recollections ... worthwhile for his comments on military life and as social history" [ITC 121]. Bud Robertson, in the Nevins bibliography, concludes that this book is "an authentic and valuable narrative on soldier life in the Army of Northern Virginia" [Nevins I, 126]. In the publisher's read cloth, this copy had loss and tearing at the top of the spine which has been repaired with japanese tissue; the front hinge has been reglued, and the titling is worn. This copy is Signed by McKim with a personal inscription to Bishop Alfred Randolph, who was the Episcopal Bishop of Southern Virginia. McKim recounts his studies and ordination as a deacon in the Episcopal Church in Chapter XVII of these memoirs; he himself ultimately was to be elevate to the Episcopate in the Episcopal Church. A nice association from Bishop to another. (ITC 121; Nevins I, 126). Good binding. (Inventory #: 276015)
