Thomas Shaw of Standish, Cumberland County, Maine was a balladeer who published several "Mournful Ballads", some in editions of several thousand copies, and sold his broadsides himself for 6-1/4 cents each. This one was even pirated by a New York printer. None are common today. Fifth Edition is not in Shaw & Shoemaker and Worldcat locates only one copy of it, at NYHS, but that copy differs in the ornaments and heading from ours (Inventory #: 304640)
