by Nescopeck Bridge Company
1814. Printed Share for Bridge over the Susquehanna River at the Falls of Nescopeck. Share is signed by Daniel Piersale (?). The Nescopeck Bridge as a concept was approved by the Pennsylvania Legislature on April 9, 1807 but final preparations began on February 28, 1812. The bridge was built in 1816 designed by the architect Theodore Burr. The covered bridge connected Berwick and Nescopeck and was 1,256 feet long with a width of 28 feet. Its total cost was $52,435 but though the advanced design was made primarily of wood, it could not withstand the flood of the winter of 1935-36, it was washed away. A nicely printed original stock share signed by the President and Treasurer of the Corporation. (Inventory #: 018951)
