1837. · Edinburgh
by Wilkie, David
Edinburgh, 1837.. [2],ii,ii,293,[1]pp. Original brown cloth, spine gilt. Some fading, edges lightly rubbed, hinges tender. Light scattered foxing. Very good. This copy is inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf: "To Miss Leith, With best wishes and warm regards of the Author 7th May, 1838." Wilkie travelled from his native Scotland to New York and north through Canada. This highly entertaining anecdotal narrative covers the Native community, society, and culture, and local history. The Yale library credits the author as Scottish painter Sir David Wilkie, but this attribution seems doubtful to us. TPL 1871. HOWES W421. SABIN 104015. LANDE 2301.
