After serving faithfully under General Lee as his military secretary, Long wrote this biographical compendium about Lee when Long himself was completely blind. The book is dedicated "To the Disabled Confederate Soldiers" with a plate in facsimile of the dedication written by Long on a slate used by the blind. According to the Nevins bibliography, this account is "[u]ncritical and superficial, with heavy emphasis on the military campaigns" [Nevins II, 73]. All plates and maps are present. This copy in the publisher's green cloth. Hinges have been discreetly reinforced with japanese tissue, as have the spine extremities. This from the library of the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, with an excised bookplate evident on the pastedown, pocket removal to the rear pastedown, and a rubber stamp to the bottom of the copyright page.
