First edition, 12mo, pp. 390, [18] (pub ads); frontispiece, 7 tinted lithograph plates; original brown cloth, gilt-lettered spine, anchor vignette stamped in gilt on upper cover and blind on rear cover; hinges starting, quarter-sized dampstain at lower edge of first few leaves, early owner's initials and date in ink on upper corner of front free endpaper, foxed through out, extremities have light edgewear, else a very good copy. A detailed account by Commander Foote of the U.S. brig Perry of the time he was part of the naval squadron off the coast of Africa, sent to protect the commerce of the coast and promote the suppression of the slave-trade.
