Tau/Ma. Vol. 1 (1976) through Vol. 7 (1981) (all published)
A complete run in 7 volumes of the irregularly published contemporary art and literature journal, under the editorial direction of Mario Diacono in New York and Claudio Parmiggiani in Bologna, the volumes consisting of portfolios each containing several different booklets from a range of international writers and artists, with contributors including Gian Pio Torricelli, Vito Acconci, Luigi Ballerini, Jirí Kolár, Haroldo de Campos, Regina Silveira, Joan Jonas, Emilio Prini, Aleksej Krucenych, Jochen Gerz, Agnes Denes, Madeline Gins, Luciano Bartolini, Carlo Severi, El Lissitzky, Mimmo Paladino, Emilio Villa, and many others. Profusely illustrated. 4to. Orig. wrpps., housed in original cardboard portfolio boxes. Some tears and collapsing to portfolios, especially at corners. Reggio Emilia (A. Maramotti) 1976-1981. Limited edition. A pamphlet included with Volume 1 of Tau/Ma outlines the publication by saying that in each volume are collected a series of original works which allude to the book but transcend the idea of the book in its usual sense. Many works have in common a tension regarding the "display" of speech, and the authors are in general artists or visual writers. The pamphlet goes on to refer to the individual works as artists' books, including documentations of a performance or an installation, original visual written works, verbal poetry, typography, and imagery. As of September 2016, WorldCat locates six holdings in North America, plus a few scattered holdings of single volumes.
