Bache (1792-1864), with Wood, edited the Dispensatory of the United States which became an authoritative text. Bache, the great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin, was a longtime professor of chemistry at Jefferson College where he played an integral role in elevating the school's status to its nineteenth century prominence.
