Joannis Shanahan (most likely Bishop John Shanahan of the Harrisburg, PA Catholic Diocese, 1899-1916). Leather title label coming loose from spine. Pages clean and bright with no foxing or age toning. The verso of page 195 is numbered 818, but the next page is 197, so it is presumed that "Page 818" really is Page 196.. Mottled brown leather/boards; 6 raised bands on spine with gilt decoration and lettering. Decorative title pages with red/black lettering and bw illus. (8) + 532 + 412. No illus. Text in Latin. Four total books. Books 1-2 numbered consecutively (pp. 1-532) and books 3-4 numbered consecutively (pp. 1-412). Barbosa was a prolific Portuguese writer on canon law. His work included dictionary-type surveys of the legal elements. His works fill at least 30 volumes. They show intimate acquaintance with authors, sources, and controversial questions.
