A line of old handwriting (fountain pen?) at top of title page. Front board beginning to detach at bottom. Small, white ex-lib. numbers on lower spine. General scuffing to covers and wear to edges/corners. Ex libris Rev. Joannis Shanahan (most likely Bishop John Shanahan of the Harrisburg, PA Catholic Diocese, 1899-1916). Worm holes on ffep and half title. Some age toning on text columns of pages.. Embossed leather/boards. 5 highly-raised bands on spine with gilt decoration and lettering. Red speckled page edges. (4) + 263 + (32); and (4) + 293 + (38). Both title pages with red/black lettering and bw illus. Typeset in two columns. Text in Latin. Two titles bound in the same volume. The 1679 publication is first, and the 1665 publication is second. Barbosa was a prolific Portuguese writer on canon law. His work included dictionary-type surveys of the legal elements. His works fill at least 30 volumes. They show intimate acquaintance with authors, sources, and controversial questions.
