Recent period-style quarter calf over marbled boards, raised bands and lettering piece to spine, endpapers renewed. Title page printed in red and black, copperplate text vignette in preface, large copperplate vignette to head of dedication, large woodcut vignettes at the beginnings of each section. Very light browning to text, somewhat heavier in places, foxing, stains and edgewear to a few leaves, light soiling and edgewear to title page, internally clean. * Only edition, 1 of 2 issues from 1730. With a subscriber list. One of the great achievements of eighteenth-century English legal philology, this is a critical edition of Howel's Cyfraith Hywel and other early compilations of Welsh civil and ecclesiastical law. The work concludes with a glossary of Welsh legal terms by Wotton.
