Monument sculpted by Tate Marble Works in Pickens County, Georgia. Mount Oglethorpe was the original southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Due to overdevelopment and vandalism in the area the Appalachian Trail was moved to Springer Mountain approximately 20 miles north in 1958. The Oglethorpe Monument was moved from Mount Oglethorpe to Jasper Georgia. (Inventory #: 8508)
