Charles Dudley Warner (1829 1900) was an American essayist, novelist, and good friend of Mark Twain. Warner travelled widely and lectured frequently, often recording his experiences in columns and travel books, such as this one which relates his time traveling along the Nile River. With particular interest in Muslim life in Egypt, Warner takes the reader through the length of the Egypt and on south into Ethiopia and tropical Africa. He captures the nineteenth century fascination with the East. Austin C. Chase (1834-1918?) moved from New Hampshire to Boston to learn the piano building, then moved to Syracuse where he spent 30 years in the manufacture and sale of musical instruments. He simultaneously engaged in real estate development and farming. He was a consummately successful businessman and also a great patron of music in Syracuse and elsewhere. . (Inventory #: 40326)
