London: Printed for J. Nourse, 1756, 1756. First edition of the first and only English translation. Sale 83; NCBEL II, 919. Very good copy.. 8vo, recent sprinkled calf period style, dark red morocco label, gilt rules and lettering. A scarce entry into the genre of works inspired by Samuel Richardson's popular novel Pamela or Virtue Rewarded (1741), this one by Venetian playwright and librettist Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793), who, according to Sale, took considerable liberties with Richardson's plot. Goldoni's Pamela is bound with, as issued, the first English edition of his play The Father of the Family. (Inventory #: 27162)
