Vol. I of the Pickwick Papers has a 1.5 page letter SIGNED in full by Dickens, dated 16 December, 1850: 'Devonshire Terrace. Dear Sir, I find that I shall be so deluged and utterly swamped and [cast away/] by letters of introduction, during the time of the Great Exhibition, if I remain in town, that I must fly to save myself. Therefore I shall be glad to let my house for six months -- from May to October inclusive -- if I can get a good price for it. I should say that I ought to have 300 Pounds, or it would be better shut up. Do you think you can let it for me? Faithfully yours, Charles Dickens. / William Phillips, Esquire' Letter is folded once to make 4 sheets and has other pressed-out creases, but nice and bold. Books are very good to fine, one or two showing slight scuffing to boards. 40 volumes complete. Postage calculated at point of sale.
