His trademark attire was aÂ boater hat, which he always wore on stage with aÂ tuxedo.Â In 1958, he starred with Leslie Caron and Louis Jourdan in Gigi and in the early 1960s, he made eight films, includingÂ Can-CanÂ in 1960 andÂ FannyÂ the following year. Â The success ofÂ GigiÂ prompted Hollywood to give him anÂ Academy Honorary AwardÂ that year for achievements in entertainment.Â
