Edinburgh: for Archibald Constable and Co, 1824. First Edition. Small Octavo. In three volumes. 319, 328 and 331pp., Half-titles present. The story revolves around the return of Prince Charles Edward Stuart to England some years after 1745 in a final attempt to claim the crown. Some say this story relates to Scott's own life than any other Waverley Novel. In particular, it draws on Scott's training as a lawyer. Bound by Carss of Glasgow in ¾ brown polished calf over marbled paper covered boards, black morocco spine labels gilt, spines decorated in gilt and blind. Contemporary owner's bookplate Alexander Millar, Esq. who lived in Scotland and was a book collector who's name appears several times as a book subscriber.
