Sm. sq. 8vo. 54pp. With a full-color illustrated title page and 11 full-page color illustrations. In the original brick cloth and illustrated boards. Boards have some shelf wear especially on the bottom edge and at corners. Binding is square and solid. Interior is clean & bright.Some loosening to stringing but binding is still intact and square. Housed in a leather backed clamshell box with gilt lettering to spine. Title page is decorated, pale blue/yellow, as a theater stage with children dancing, and the orchestra pit with cat musicians. Illustrated throughout with full color plates and color engravings surrounding the music notation, in the Arts and Crafts style with Pre-Raphaelite influences. The wood engraving was by Edmund Evans, who had a long-standing collaboration with Crane, and also with Kate Greenaway. (Gumachian 1920). (Inventory #: 004744)
