Norman, OK University of Oklahoma Press 1956 Hardcover First Edition VG SIGNED - Two-tone tan and orange cloth spine and boards with charcoal colored outline illustration on both spine and front board. Light rubbing at the head of the spine and at the tips of the upper corners. Heavy rubbing (frayed with some loose threads) at the tail and at the tips of the lower corners. Previous owner's name written on the front endpaper. Signed and inscribed by the author on the half title page in blue pen: "Sincerely, Ruth M. Underhill." Illustrated with photographs. Some pencil markings. No dust jacket.

boards : Common term for the covers of a hardbound book.
rubbing : Abrasion or wear to the surface. Usually
used in reference to a book's boards or dust-jacket.
dust jacket : A protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.
vg : Very Good condition. can describe a used book that does show some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects must be noted. (defined by AB Bookman's Weekly)
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.
tail : The heel of the spine.
title page : A page where the title of the book, the author's name and publication information usually appear.
endpaper : The double leaves bound into a book at the front and rear after printing. One side is glued to the inner portion of the boards (the paste-down) and the other is left loose (free endpaper).
half title : The leaf which appears just prior to the title page, and typically contains only the title of the book, although, at times, the author's name and/or other information may appear.
inscribed : a short note written by the author or a previous owner in the beginning of a book, generally accompanied by a signature.
Cloth : Generally refers to a hardcover with cloth covering the outside of the book covers.
