Each card has 3 paper-thin matted wood samples -- the transverse, radial, and tangential cross sections for each type of wood. (the samples are very fragile and some have hairline cracks in the grain). The samples are housed in the original blind-stamped folding green cloth sleeves inside a matching slipcases with metal clasps (slipcases are edgeworn, particularly at spine ends; 2 of the clasps are broken). Ex-library copies with only 1 small stamp inside each booklet. Lowville, N.Y.: Privately Printed. Mixed editions: Vol. 1 is 1910 3rd edition. 7 samples have nicks with partial loss of wood; 1 sample has large tape repair; lacks sheet 16. Vol.2 is 1898 2nd edition. 4 samples are nicked; lacks sheets 35 & 42. Vol. 3 is 1900 2nd edition. 2 samples are nicke; lacks 1 sample on sheet 63. Vol. 4 is 1894 1st edition. 1 sample is nicked and 1 is missing a larger chunk.
