Book Description

Pencil and watercolour, heightened with gum arabic, within artists's brown- lined border. Inscribed in pencil 'Cestrum roseum' (lower centre). Framed and glazed. 13 x 9 1/8 inches. A fine, technically excellent original botanical illustration to L'Horticulteur Français de Mil Cent Cinquante. Little is known of Maubert other than the extensive body of published work, which includes illustrations for Francis Boott's Illustrations of the genus Carex (London: 1858-1867); H.Jaubert & E.Spach Illustrationes plantarum Orientalium (Paris: 1842-1857); Charles Lemaire Iconographie descriptive des cactées (Paris: 1841-47); J.J.
