Almost invisible repairs at the foot of the joints, a few light scratches, a little browning at the foot of gatherings K and L, and with a number of blots of red sealing wax around the edges of the front endleaves. A very good, particularly handsome binding. Inscribed on the front fly-leaf: "Gift of the Rev.d Thomas Wills to James Wittit Lyon January 26 1787." There are records of births and deaths in the Lyon family, dating from 1785 to 1791, at the front, and references to certain Biblical passages at the end. Armorial bookplate of Benjamin Lyon on the front pastedown. James Lyon was the eldest son of Benjamin Lyon and Rebekah Wittit (who were married at St. George's Bloomsbury in 1785). The Reverend Wills baptized James and his three brothers. Jackson and Hamilton produced a number of Bibles in the 1780s, though most were in octavo and twelvemo format. This is a very attractive edition, with large type and ample margins.
