A fine portrait of the pianist duo, known for their performances (often premiere performances) of works by John Cage, Virgil Thomson, Paul Bowles, Ned Rorem, et al. Van Vechten's studio stamp appears on the verso, along with the subject, negative number and date of sitting in Van Vechten's assistant's hand, in pencil. Prints of four negatives from the same sitting are in the Library of Congress Van Vechten archive, including this image. KELLNER G431 (conflating the two subjects' names).
