Book Description

Probably executed between 1914 and 1919, and presented by Rogers to Carl P. Rollins over the long course of their friendship. . Each original artwork is matted. Images range in size from 6 x 7 1/2 to 9 x 7. Their colors are primarily green, blue, and Autumn foliage colors. Three are signed ; two are also inscribed on the mat. The mats are acidic and while they and the reverse of the paper are tanned in varying degrees, the art itself appears untouched. Looking across the meadow from Dyke Mill" is inscribed on the mat "To Carl Rollins on his 74th birthday. " The watercolor has a soft crease; the mat is acidic. The other landscape is signed in the painting "Bruce Rogers/Montague" and on the mat "To Carl and Margaret Rollins. Jan 1932." The pastel of Dyke Mill is signed "Carl Rollins' Dyke Mill /as it looked to /Bruce Rogers." This has a crease; the bottom edge of the mat has a faint water stain. Rollins printed three of BR's books at his Montague Press--including the celebrated "The Centaur" (1915)--and from Autumn 1914 through the following Spring, Rogers lived in Montague.
