First edition. 20 colored plates, including an engraved title-page with vignette illustration, by Rowlandson. Octavo. [iii]-iv,[2],319 pp. Bound by Riviere & Son in full blue morocco, gilt- stamped title and decoration in spine compartments, gilt frames and inner dentelles, maroon coated endpapers, a.e.g. Binding show a little light edgewear and one raised band on spine is nicked. Nonetheless, it is a handsome copy, with clean text and plates. This title is one of the many parodies and imitations of William Combe's very popular series of "Tours" of Doctor Syntax (published respectively in 1812, 1820 and 1821) which were also illustrated by Rowlandson.
