Book Description
A completely engaging letter, full of the cadet's course of study, and the pattern of his days at West Point in 1824. Written to his brother, Ebenezer Jackson, of Walnut Street Philadelphia. Ebenezer practiced law in Philadelphia, and moved to Middletown, Connecticut, later becoming a US Congressman from Connecticut . The course of study includes Analytic Trigonometry, Descriptive Geometry, Perspective, Fortification, the authors they are reading & Drawing. The father, Amasa Jackson, 1765-1824, served in the 8th Massachusetts Infantry 1777 to 1783, and was president of the Union Bank & like his brother, a merchant in Georgia. The Jackson family papers are held by the Massachusetts Historical Society. 7 3/4 x 9 1/2", written on 4 sides. Transcribed typescript. Letter a little browned towards the right side, sml. tear in the left with some loss on the facing page, West Point post mark.
