Huxley served as assistant surgeon and naturalist aboard the Rattlesnake (1845-50) which made cruises from Australia to Louisiade Archipelago, New Guinea and Cape York. This journal covered his experience that led to his contributions to promoting evolutionary theory with Darwin & Wallace.
