Numbered and signed by the publisher, David Nutt. This follow-up to Celtic Fairy Tales is in the original beige paper covered flexible boards with gilt title to spine and front board. There is chipping to the paper along the front hinge and rubbing to spine. The clean interior is filled with charming full page illustrations and vignettes by John D. Batten. There are two copies of each full page illustration. Very good condition. 234 pages. LIT/041808. Very Good.

boards : Common term for the covers of a hardbound book.
rubbing : Abrasion or wear to the surface. Usually
used in reference to a book's boards or dust-jacket.
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.
chipping : A defect in which small pieces missing from the edges.
gilt : The decorative application of gold or gold coloring to a portion of a book. The edges of the text block, or an inlay in the front cover of the boards, for example.
8vo : Short for Octavo, A book whose page size is approximately 8-10 inches tall. The size is based on a sheet of paper 25 inches by 38 inches, the size of paper traditionally used by book printers, which has been folded and cut into 16 pages..
Unfortunately often misunderstood to mean 8 volumes.
hinge : The portion of a book near the spine that is intended to flex to allow the book to open.
vellum : A fine quality of parchment made from hide produced for binding or sometimes a writing surface. Sometimes used to describe paper which has been made to resemble true vellum.
