Book Description
New York: Jonathan Cape Harrison Smith, [1930].. Light tan cloth, stamped in dark brown, top edge stained dark brown. About fine in carefully price-clipped dust jacket with a couple of minuscule closed edge-nicks and a few faint dust smudges to the upper panel. First edition, first issue, with 'I' on p. 11 out of alignment. Like a copy formerly in the Petersen collection, the binding stamping is properly positioned, but the 'I" on the upper board wants the top serif. However, the binding variations have no demonstrated relationship to priority of issue. According to Daniel, the first printing consisted of 2522 copies, of which 750 copies were distributed before p.11 was corrected with a cancel leaf. PETERSEN A7. MASSEY 16.
