Beautiful decorated green cloth with a pattern of colorful daisies spread across the front cover. This attractive early reprint of one of James's best known books is illustrated with a frontispiece and marginal drawings throughout by Harry W. McVickar. SIGNED and INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper: "After long years:/Henry James/November 9th 1909." Books inscribed by James are quite uncommon, especially his more desirable titles such as this one. Lovely copy, hinges neatly repaired with the front pastedown professionally replaced to cover a mark left by removing a bookplate.
