Book Description
Park Forest, Illinois: W. R. Hasbrouck. 1963. 4to. H Cloth... Fine.. Facsimile edition of the rare 1896-7 edition printed in River Forest , Illinois at the Auvergne Press. 4to, two-tone brown and green cloth, a little worn at spine ends and corners, internally fine. Bookplate removed. Limited to 1000 copies. The text by Gannett, a Unitarian minister, is a statement of the Arts & Crafts philosophy of the Ideal House. It is surrounded by Wright's pen and ink drawings in black and red of stylized plant forms in a complex ornamental scheme. The figure of the young architect walks across the double title page; the metaphor compared the architect to a growing tree. The facsimile includes the booklet of 14 pages sewn to the front endpaper, reproducing Wright's photographs of dried weeds. Sweeney 1530.
