Book Description
1968. LAING, Frederick. THE BRIDE WORE BRAIDS. NY: Four Winds Press, [1968]. 8vo., blue cloth in dust jacket. First Edition. The dedication copy, with a signed presentation from Laing on the dedications page. The dedication page reads "For Blanche...and for Helen and Arthur Siegrist"- to which Laing adds asterisks and pens "..with thanks- Frederick Laing." Also enclosed is a typed letter signed from Laing on personalized stationery, dated Sept. 16, 1968: "Dear Mrs. Siegrist: Thanks for your note. It was a pleasure to dedicate the book to you and your husband and I'm glad the pleasure is mutual. I wrote this one at your Connecticut house in about half the time it would have taken me in the city-- at least I like to think that was why it went so fast, because I enjoyed working there and it was nice to know that at the same time Blanche [his wife] was having a pleasant vacation. Blanche joins me in sending kind thoughts and best wishes to you and Mr. Siegrist. Frederick Laing." The fictional story of a teenage marriage that starts in love and loneliness and nearly ends in disaster. Near fine; minor wear (few short tears) d/j.
