Book Description

(STAMPS) Thirty-seven (37) First Day Covers, each commemorating the opening of a new post office in Israel. 1949-1952. Printed in various colors, all highly graphic, many with pioneering scenes. Very Good condition. The opening of a post office, or a new mobile post office, was a barometer for population growth in the early days of Statehood. Each new opening was a cause for celebration, for, in most cases, it represented the beginning of a new neighborhood, and increased colonization of the Land. Each postcard, in some sense, serves as a historic document. Among the cities are: Azor, Tel Josef, Gan Shmuel, Ramla, Migdal Asqlon, Elat, Dir El Balah, Beit Yizhak, Caesarea, Kfar Hamakabi, Yavneh, Ganigar, and Beer Sheva.
