Tel Aviv, Israel. 1951-1956. Containing numerous autographs on more than twenty pages (removed), plus three letters written to the hotel manager. Evidence of prior folding, some clipping, but all in Good condition.AMONG THE NOTABLES SIGNING ARE: David Ben-Gurion, Moshe Dayan, Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. (while a member of Congress), actors Kirk Douglas and Yvonne de Carlo, the violinist Yehudi Menuhin, and writers Art Buchwald and Herman Wouk. The Mayors Study Tour to the Holy Land sojourned at the Ramat Aviv in 1953 and includes the signatures of mayors from New York City, Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, Berkeley etc. The hotel seems to have been well prepared to cater to large groups such as The Knoxville Air Reserve, American Israel Bond Planning Commission and (how exotic) the Maccabia Rhodesian Bowling Team! Three thank you letters from group leaders complement the collection. In the early years of Israels independence it was important that the young nation establish itself as being ready and able to cater to the needs of international travelers. The written comments in this guestbook make frequent allusions to the astonishing growth of Israels new businesses and laud the staff of the Ramat Aviv for their determination in being a part of this growth. Though the collection at first glimpse might be seen as curious ephemera, a closer examination reveals it more properly as a thin wall through which the intimate voices of a new nation can be heard.
