Original embossed brown cloth with paper label; label chipped, spine and parts of cover sun bleached. With three ownership inscriptions on flyleaf, including "Ellis Lewis, 1846." Lewis was a noted jurist from Pennsylvania (see DAB). First American edition, originally published in London earlier that year.
