Book Description

1971. ("Vera"; Nabokov's wife), Palace Hotel, Montreux, Switzerland. (2): October 6; October 15, 1971. Both letters to Nabokov's agent, Irving ("Swifty") Lazar in Beverly Hills. 4 to, 2 pages. October 6, 1971: "Vladimir appreciates your efforts to obtain all the releases for the publication of the screenplay LOLITA. He is extremely eager to have it published. He would take the risk of going ahead without Kubrick's release but it is very doubtful that McGraw-Hill would. . .We do hope Kubrick can be cajoled or shamed into agreeing. . .I am asking Miss Daly to write the letter you mention. . .I mean the one for MGM. I am also asking her to obtain Putnam's authorization when time is ripe. . .We do not expect much profit from the publication. Vladimir is so keen to publish it for esthetical (sic) reasons and for reasons of his reputation as a writer. . ." October 15, 1971: Vladimir was most happy to hear that you have succeeded in obtaining a release to publish the screenplay from Warner Bros. and from Kubrick (almost). . .All we have here is one copy of the screenplay, and it is a zerox copy and cannot be duplicated. . .I am. .writing McGraw-Hill and aski ng if they could provide a copy. . .Actually. . .Stanley [Kubrick] has all the material involved in his own files. . .It is an awful duplication of labor.perhaps he can see the pointl e ssness of all this activity. . .". No Binding. Very Good.
