New York:: Shepard Kollock,. 1786.. Hardcover. 8vo, xxiv, [25]-402, [2] ads. Contemporary brown leather, gilt title at red spine label; spine with raised bands. Owner inscription at ffep: "Joh. Carle his book, 1793", and at title page. Carle was born in 1769 in Long Hill, New Jersey and became a justice of the peace, judge of the court, and member of the New Jersey Legislature. Also a signature of Barnabas King, dated 1814, who was a pastor at Rockaway, New Jersey. Edwards described his framework for this History when he spoke of it to the trustees of the College of New Jersey as theology in the form of a narrative, organized into a history of earth, heaven and hell.
