BURNS</B> (?-1955). A criminal best known for this book <I>I Am A Fugitive From A Georgia Chain Gang</I>, he was imprisoned for a minor robbery. He escaped from the chains and made his way to Chicago. There, he became a respected citizen until someone turned him in. He returned to Georgia, where he again escaped from the chain gang. He fled to New Jersey, where he published his life's story. <P> ALS. 1pg. 5" x 8". June 6, 1934. Casper Wyo. An autograph letter signed <I>"<B>Robert E. Burns</B>"</I> to <I>"Virgil Yates Russell"</I> on his monogrammed stationery: <I>"Replying to your several requests - herein you will find a photo of myself. On the last page of this letter you will also find my autograph."</I> The letter has small stains in the corners and short fold separations; an unusual criminal autograph
