Book Description
Price, a Congressman from Iowa, served as Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1881 to 1885. LS. 1pp. 8" x 10". Jany 26th, 1882. Washington. A letter signed "H. Price" as Commissioner of Indian Affairs on "Department of the Interior Office Of Indian Affairs" letterhead. He wrote to "Jas M. McMaster", an Indian agent in Nevada. Price wrote: "In response to your telegram of 20th instant. I have ordered from Dr. H.A. Martin and Son of Boston, Mass a supply of vaccine virus from your agency. At once on its receipt, you will advise this office that account for same may receive prompt settlement." The letter has some stains to the lower left corner, but dark ink; the overall condition is fine. An unusual letter showing the government ordering vaccine for the Native Americans
