Book Description
DS. 1pg. 8 ½” x 12 ½”. January 7, 1926. Washington. A scarce letter of state signed “Calvin Coolidge” as President and “Frank B. Kellogg” as Secretary of State. The document is addressed to Felipe Guzman, President of the Republic of Bolivia: “I have made the choice of Jesse S. Cottrell, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Bolivia, as my Special Representative with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to attend the ceremonies incident to the inauguration of His Excellency Hernando Stiles as President of the Republic of Bolivia. I have entire confidence that he will render himself acceptable to Your Excellency in the distinguished duty with which I have invested him. I therefore request Your Excellency to receive him favorably and to accept from him the assurance of the high regard and friendship entertained for Your Excellency and the Government and People of Bolivia by the Government and People of the United States, and the sincere felicitations which they, and I in their name tender to your Excellency on this historic occasion. May God have Your Excellency in His safe and holy Keeping.” The document is in fine condition with white paper and dark ink. It may have been trimmed since there is no Seal of the United States.
