Book Description
SB. 10 ¼” x 7 ¾”. 1952 to 1972. Ballintober [Maryland]. A guest book kept by Thomas Edison’s daughter, Madeline Sloane, at her estate on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The book was begun in 1952 and ran until about 1972. Numerous Sloane and Edison family members are listed in it, including her brother Charles Edison, who was New Jersey Governor. They are many positive comments in the book, such as “I hate to leave!”, “Not enough chow! Not enough booze!” and “A wonderful spot & most gracious hostess.” The book is housed in a red leather cover with gold lettering and the spine is slightly detached. There is a small color photograph of the estate, and some other family papers that look like party planning papers. Recently, Vice President Cheney bought this same Maryland estate.
