Book Description

1pg. 5 ¾" x 9 ¼". Dec. 12, 1864. Lynchburg. An autograph letter signed "William P. Percival" addressed to Captain Shelby A.A.G. CSA: "I have twenty bushels of corn to be delivered to me at Shawsville Montgomery Count Va. the corn is for my own family use and not for speculation. I am no trader and have never in my life speculated in any thing. Please send a permit for transportation." Percival lived in Lynchburg and was able to send food to his family since Jubal Early had recently driven Union troops from the area in June 1864. The letter, on browned, lined paper, is in very good condition with fold lines still evident
