Perkins McGuire about a year before Nixon was inaugurated: " Maury Stans has told me of the additional assistance you have been in his fund-raising activities. This note is to express my deep personal appreciation for your confidence and support as well as that of the members of your District of Columbia Committee." Perkins served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Eisenhower, and was appointed by Nixon to be Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. Maurice " Maury" Stans was the finance chairman for the Committee to Re-Elect Richard Nixon, and it was later discovered that some of the money he raised was used to finance the illegal activities of the Watergate Scandal. After being indicted in 1973, he was acquitted of all charges. Typed on Nixon"Äôs personal letterhead, the letter is in fine condition, with a few paperclip rust stains.
